WHAT IS GOLD-FILLED JEWELRY?

Most of our jewelry is made of 14k gold filled (USA made),18k gold filled (Brazilian made), gold overlay and sterling silver - they're high quality and can last a lifetime with care!  We do carry some gold plated items. These items will be indicated in the description.

Gold filled is an actual layer of real gold that has been bonded to another metal with high heat and pressure.

Gold filled is 100x stronger than "plated" jewelry (Plated jewelry is usually just dipped in a thin layer of gold).

Because of the high heat and pressure bonding process used in gold filled jewelry, the gold will not rub off or turn colors like plated jewelry does.​

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN USA MADE GOLD FILLED + BRAZILIAN GOLD FILLED

The main difference is the amount of gold used. USA made gold filled (All our 14k gold filled) is 5% real gold of the total weight of each piece while Brazilian gold filled is 3% real gold of the total weight of each piece. The same heat bonded technique is used for both types of gold filled. Our18k Brazilian gold is more sensitive and may require more care.

WHAT IS GOLD OVERLAY? 

Gold Overlay jewelry has on average 5-7 times the thickness of most gold plated jewelry. Acid gold is a harder gold plating formula than average gold plating. Jewelry that is finished with an acid gold application has excellent long term wearing qualities. With proper care, gold overlay can last a lifetime.

DOES OUR JEWELRY CONTAIN NICKEL?

No, our gold filled, gold plated stainless steel, and gold overlay jewelry do not have nickel and is hypoallergenic. Some body chemistries are a little different and everyone reacts differently to different metals. If you normally have sensitive skin even when you wear pure gold jewelry you may still be sensitive to gold-filled jewelry.

CAN OUR PIECES TARNISH?

Yes, it can, but it takes a real rare set of circumstances. Gold-filled jewelry supplies are a lifetime product because the gold layer bonded to the brass/copper core is quite thick. However, in really rare instances of extreme sulfide exposure, it can blacken. 

 

CAN I GET MY JEWELRY WET?

14k GOLD FILLED (USA MADE)

Over the years I have worn my 14k gold filled in the shower, at the beach and at the pool. It has lasted me years upon years. My 14k gold filled rings I never take off. So they are constantly getting wet while washing dishes, washing my hands, and applying sanitizer. So I can attest that our 14k gold filled jewelry (USA made) will withstand wear and tear for years. Now, even though my 14k gold filled jewelry has lasted years it has gone through a lot of wear and tear. It may fade in color, get scratched, dented, and bent if not properly taken care of.

GOLD STAINLESS STEEL 

Our Gold PVD stainless steel pieces are built to last. They are hypoallergenic, will never fade or tarnish and absolutely can get wet.

18k GOLD FILLED (BRAZILIAN MADE)

Our 18k gold filled pieces use less gold and are more sensitive than our 14k gold filled. It uses the same heat bonding process but has a much thinner layer of gold. I would not recommend getting our 18k gold filled pieces wet and I would avoid using chemicals such as perfumes and lotions.

GOLD OVERLAY

Gold overlay jewelry has an average of 5-7 times the thickness of most gold plated jewelry. So it will last much longer than your average gold plated jewelry. With proper care your gold overlay jewelry can last a lifetime. We do recommend removing your gold overlay jewelry when swimming, showering and sleeping. Avoid harsh chemicals like perfumes and/or lotions if you want to extend the longevity of your gold overlay pieces.
